25 years ago today, the world changed.

It's hard to believe it was a quarter of a century ago, I can remember it vividly. My brother, now an airline captain, was seven. My sister, only four.

For an entire generation today, it's 'history', talked about at school like we would talk about the assassination of JFK, or the moon landings. Something in the distant past that shaped the landscape of the world we live in today, that left a stain on modern life seen every time you pass through an airport, amongst many other places and events.

In "Come from Away" the compassion and generosity of Canada, and the people of Newfoundland in particular, is celebrated and remembered through the true stories of those who were in the skies that day and made it home - albeit a few days late - with new experiences and memories. In the "education pack" for the show, the statements of President George W. Bush and Osama bin Laden appear side by side on opposite pages, as we must in lessons of history, for if we do not learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it.

America is very different today than I remember it too, but today I remember the America I saw in the immediate aftermath of this terrible day 25 years ago. The America that friends of mine are proud to call home, and an incredible city that I will no doubt visit again in the future.
