Eos Global Tap Tempo

Global Effect Tap Tempo for ETC Eos

When working on a show recently with a friend who does a lot of live busking work on Eos, they expressed how useful it would be to have a better 'tap tempo' implementation and I was convinced this is something that would be possible with macros.

Sadly, it isn't.

I also expect (and hope) that ETC will add this feature in a future release whenever they update the effects engine but, for now, here's a hacky solution that works for them so might work for you too.

Using a small companion app running on a Mac on the same network (or the same computer if you're using ETCnomad) it's possible to make a macro remotely update an external BPM counter that, in turn, updates multiple effects.

You can either hit the blue button on the app to tap tempo, or create a simple macro that sends /zbpm/tap

The label of the Macro will be automatically updated with the current BPM if you set the BPM Macro number accordingly in the app, making it feel like a more Eos-native solution as you don't need to leave your console Direct Selects / Magic Sheets / Target Keys etc.

The BPM can be applied to an individual effect (700), several effects (10 20 24 30), or a range of effects as required (3001-3020 or 4000-)

If you use Eos for busking, maybe you'll find it useful too.

The app can be downloaded here for MacOS (Apple Silicon Only)
